Webster’s 2nd annual ‘Augtoberfest’ was a huge, fun success

With perfect weather and a larger tent to accommodate a crowd of more than 300, Augtoberfest exceeded expectations and promises to become a favorite annual Webster event.

Dan Zimmer and his Polka Band kicked off the afternoon with a traditional Octoberfest musical toast’ “Ein Prosit, ein Prosit, Gemuetlichlkeit.” Honored guests Klaus Nieder and his wife, Ingrid, followed up with his trademark crowd responsorial, “Zicke Zacke, zicke zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi.” Host Chris Kuehn, Boone Docks Marine, presided as emcee.

We’re very happy with the way everything worked out,” said Nancy Meindel, the driving force behind relocating Augtoberfest from Danbury to Webster. Meindel, along with the Webster Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) team led by President Mary Smoliak and a host of volunteers, brought all the parts together. Also making the event possible were sponsors Sky High Ranch, Boone Docks Marine, Affordable Outdoor Enterprises, Yellow River Pharmacy and Edward Jones.

“The German Beer selection was excellent,” was a frequent compliment. Several varieties of cold imported German beer were poured by ladies from The Tap, dressed in festive themed dresses. Hog Wild and Short & Sweet food trucks served up hot food and cold ice cream. Couples of all ages danced polkas and waltzes to the Polka Band. “I haven’t danced with my husband in years!” exclaimed one delighted guest.

The River City Cloggers led by Sheryl Baker opened their show with enthusiastic choreography to Beyonce’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” Her professional dancers were augmented by Webster students - Baker teaches clogging classes on Tuesdays at the Community Center. Later, Baker invited children to the floor to teach them some simple dance steps.

“Everyone had a fantastic time!” commented Smoliak. “The new location across the street with the huge tent and plenty of seating was exactly what we needed to make it more of a true Oktoberfest experience. We’re already planning enhancements for next year!”
